Get to know the photographer

Documantary style photographer and
visual storyteller

I’m Ben Bülent Doruk — a photographer, visual storyteller, and former award-winning photojournalist based in
New York & New Jersey.
My journey with photography began over 20 years ago, first through cinema and then deeply rooted in photojournalism. I’ve traveled across the world, documenting powerful human stories — not from behind
a studio curtain, but from the
middle of life as it unfolds.
Today, I bring that same documentary spirit into every portrait, wedding, and event I photograph. I don’t ask you to pose. I don’t force a smile. I wait, I watch, and I photograph you as you are —
honest, emotional, and full of life.
I work with real people — artists, families, workers, lovers, dreamers — people who want more than just a perfect image. They want a moment, a truth, a memory.
Close Up Pictures isn’t just a brand. It’s a space where your story is seen,
heard, and remembered. Because
the story being told is yours.
“If your photos aren't good enough, you're not close enough.”
Robert Capa

As I learn how to be a father, I’m also relearning how to be a child. To see life more simply, more honestly, more openly… That shift has changed the way I connect with photography too. I'm no longer chasing perfect shots — I’m drawn to what’s real, raw, and meaningful. I prefer emotion over poses, and honesty over perfection.

I started out as a photojournalist, working in all kinds of places — war zones, stadiums, concert halls, protests, and everyday streets. For years, I documented life as it happened, with my work featured in publications like TIME and National Geographic. But what stayed with me the most were people — their faces, their feelings, their truths. Today, I still follow real moments, capturing life not as it’s staged, but as it’s lived — so the stories can live on.
